Sometimes, if necessary, these are carried by away teams. If an away mission is going to be especially hazardous, these can be deployed in a set of three.
First, an away member(s) would set up the transport enhancers in a triangle formation. Then, the devices would be switched "on." When activated, the transport enhancers connect with each other via a blue beam. This process instantly enhances the patterns of all that are inside the triangle, making transportation much easier.
